Plan A Visit

5225 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018

Welcome to Camelback church of Christ!  We’d love to have you join us!

Sundays: Bible Class 9:30 a.m., Morning Worship 10:30 a.m., Evening Worship 6:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: Bible Class 6:00 p.m.

Our heart's desire is to be a place where lives are changed by following Jesus.  We are devoted to loving God, maturing in the image of Christ, and sharing our faith.  We want to fall more and more in love with the One who loved us first.  As we understand what it means to love God, we realize that God wants us to be like Jesus.  To do that, we devote ourselves to studying the Bible.  If you aren't familiar with His life and teachings, we'll help you get started.  If you already know Him, we'll encourage you to keep growing into His likeness.  And as we follow Christ together, it is our desire to be used by God to help others in their own spiritual journey.  We want to share our love for Jesus with those around us and to be His hands and feet.

What To Expect

First of all, you are always welcome at the Camelback church!  We understand that visiting a church can be intimidating. "What should I wear?" "Will I find a seat?" "Will people speak to me?" "Is there something for my kids?"

Here are a few things to keep in mind...

  • We do not have a dress code. Some people dress up, some come casual. We do not care how you dress, but we’ll be glad to have you!

  • At no time will you be singled out as a visitor, but you will be greeted warmly.

  • We are not after your money! We have offering boxes and baskets, but those are for our members. We would very much appreciate you filling out a Visitor’s Card; and if you do, place it in the offering box or basket. You have no obligation to give, so please do not feel pressure to do so.

  • Camelback is not a perfect church; we have issues like everyone else. The only difference is that we depend on Christ and on each other in the midst of it, knowing that Jesus’ sacrifice makes us perfect to God. We hope you’ll feel that kind of grace from us too.

Here is a rundown of things we do during a typical worship service...

The Place

We normally worship in the room referred to as the auditorium or worship center. There are no reserved seats so please sit anywhere.  And kids are always welcome!  During worship services, we have a nursery for 0-2 year olds to get their wiggles out; and we have Children’s Church for 3-8 year olds.  If your child is going to attend Children's Church, please bring them to worship with you; and they will be dismissed prior to the sermon.

Singing

We love to sing!  We sing songs of glory and honor to God and Jesus, and songs of encouragement to each other.  We sing ‘a cappella,' that is, without accompaniment of musical instruments.  You are welcome to join with us, or simply listen to the words and let that draw you nearer to God.

Praying

We believe in the power of prayer so during our worship service we often pray for specific needs or just to give glory to God.  We will have several public prayers during our service and sometimes we include silent individual prayers.  Prayer changes people and we encourage you to participate with us as we pray.  If you have prayer requests, we want to pray for you!  Put it on your Visitor’s Card or tell one of the members, and we will make sure we pray for you and with you.  We also encourage you to use the prayer form.

Lord's Supper (Communion)

We observe the Lord’s Supper every Sunday as a memorial of Jesus’ death.  The Lord’s Supper is a way of remembering the sacrifice Jesus has made on our behalf (1 Cor. 11:26).  We provide an individual communion cup and wafer set for each person.  The wafer/bread symbolizes the body of Jesus.  Each participant will eat it and spend a moment remembering Jesus and His sacrifice in any way they choose.  Some open the Bible, some silently pray, some listen to a song that is being sung or sing along themselves. The cup contains grape juice, symbolizing the blood of Jesus.  Again each participant spends another moment remembering that our sins have been forgiven and washed with His blood.  Once again, you are not required to participate.  And if you don't, no need to be embarrassed.  And feel equally as free to join in.

Preaching

We usually have about 20-25 minutes dedicated to teaching and preaching from the Bible.  Most Sundays, our preacher, Daniel Hayes, will be doing the preaching.  He’ll present a message of encouragement from God’s Word to help us in our walk with the Lord, to encourage us to love like Jesus does, and to point everyone to the path of salvation.

Sunday Morning Bible Classes

We have classes for all ages from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m..

Cradle Roll

Cradle Roll is our class for newborn babies to 24 months.  Your child will love the sights and sounds as they learn that God made the world, and Jesus loves them.  Lessons and routines are repeated each Sunday so your child will learn to recognize the songs and activities.  Our rooms are spacious and allow for your little one to crawl, walk, and explore or be held by one of our teachers. More than anything, your child will be exposed to the love God has for them through the love and attention they receive from our fantastic teachers.

Camelback Kids

Camelback Kids is for kids 2 years through 6th grade.  Our teachers and leaders are committed to making the stories about Jesus fun and age-appropriate.  Your child will receive much love and attention as they explore more about the Bible through songs, hands-on activities, crafts, and play time.  Our hope is that your children will come to know that Jesus loves them, and they will love Him back.  Our classes take place in a wonderful wing of our building called Bibleville where all the classrooms and hallways bring the first century church to life!  You can window shop at Lydia’s Fine Fabrics, see the sights at Jonah’s Fish Market, and even meet the fire dog at Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s Firehouse.  These are just some of the establishments that make up our imaginative town of Bibleville!

Youth

We have a stimulating class for 7th-12th grades.  We meet each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in Bibleville at The Icehouse where we INSPIRE, CONNECT, and EQUIP our Youth to know and love Jesus and to give their lives to Him.
